RIPON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Ripon College in the opener 6-4 and the nightcap 5-4.
The Pointers held a 1-0 lead early in game one, but a three-run second inning put the host Red Hawks in front for good.
Three runs in the sixth inning pulled the Pointers within two, but Ripon closed the door and hung on for the victory.
Sara Babbitts (Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) suffered the loss, allowing four runs, all earned, in three innings. Bekah Rennicke (Mequon, WI/Homestead) threw three innings, scattering four hits and two runs, both earned.
Sam Raddant (Shawano, WI/Shawano) drove in three of UWSP's four runs with her only hit of the game.
In game two, Ripon plated five runs in the second inning off UWSP starter Rennicke to take the early lead.
Three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth pulled the Pointers within one, but again the Red Hawks held on for the one-run victory.
Raddant collected three hits in the game two loss.
