UPDATE: Stevens Point police arrest suspect wanted in Chicago
STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - UPDATE - Stevens Point police say they've arrested 40 year old Jerome Camphor. Police say he was wanted on a parole violation for possessing a firearm.
Police also say he was involved in a domestic dispute two weeks ago in Stevens Point, but left the scene. He was booked at 12:20pm today.
"It really assists to be able to get some of these people that have caused problems or crime in other communities that move here, to be able to secure arrests and get them off the streets," Stevens Point Police Chief Kevin Ruder said.
Officials say they will recommend the local charges to the DA and will continue to work with the Chicago PD.
Stevens Point police arrested a suspect at a home on Prairie Street around noon Thursday.
Officers say they were contacted by the Chicago Police Department about a man with possible gang affiliations and a warrant out for his arrest.
Chicago investigators had information that the suspect was in Stevens Point.
When Stevens Point police arrived a the home, there were children inside, so officers said they used extreme caution.
