Family of missing Vilas Co. woman plans a vigil in St. Germain

SAYNER (WAOW) -

The family of the missing Sayner woman, Sandra Schinke, say they support the decision to suspend the search. But, that does not mean they are giving up hope. They have a vigil planned this weekend, hoping to draw more attention to this case.
"We need some kind of closure. We need to find her," said Jim Schinke, husband of Sandra Schinke.

Jim Schinke is beside himself with grief as he waits for answers.

"It just feels good to close my eyes, but I can't sleep," said Schinke.

He is not alone. Schinke's family, and many others in the community are restless.

"We've just had an overwhelming amount of people calling to help in anyway they can," said Schinke.

That's why they knew something had to be done.

"We have got so many family and friends getting to the point of frustration that they can't do anything," said Joel Holberg, Sandra Schinke's brother.

So they came up with the idea for a vigil. A place where family and friends could come for support, or for prayer.

"We thought it would be good," said Holberg.
"I think we could get a lot of people to show up. Show their support," said Schinke.

But, the family hopes the vigil serves a greater purpose. A way to find Sandra, or a way to find answers, faster.

"We think if we get enough people here this will make national TV, get some coverage farther than the local communities," said Schinke.

But, so far investigators have no leads. Sandra Schinke disappeared, leaving no traces behind, and leaving Jim with so many questions.

"I would rather hear bad news than no news, no news is very, very hard on a person. A person's mind wanders so much. I can't stop thinking," said Schinke.

But, until any news comes, Jim and the rest of family will have to sit and wait. And hope the support and the prayers help find their lost loved one.

"The smallest little thing could help," said Schinke.

The vigil for Sandra Schinke is this Saturday afternoon. It starts at 1 p.m. at the St. Germain Community Center. The same place Jim and Sandra had their wedding reception.
