National Volunteer Week has coordinators expressing gratitude

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -

It's National Volunteer week, and one local program says it has a multi-million dollar value for the community.

The Marshfield Clinic AmeriCorps program has provided more than 450 volunteers statewide over its 12 year existence.

Coordinators say that translates to more than $17 million worth of service. AmeriCorps volunteers serve for at least one year.

Their focus is on substance abuse and prevention, as well as mentoring youth.

"If you think about it, you volunteer all the time. You volunteer with youth, with sports. There are all kinds of opportunities out there," said Ashley Normington, AmeriCorps volunteer.

Coordinators say the importance of volunteers cannot be expressed enough.
