UPDATE: Antigo Aquatic Center director placed on leave after drug charges

Posted:
LANGLADE COUNTY (WAOW) -

An Antigo School District employee has been placed on paid leave after being charged in part of a major drug investigation spanning several counties.

Jeffrey Neufeld, 41, of Antigo has been charged with one misdemeanor count of possessing marijuana. Officers say he admitted to buying the drug from Scot Peterson, 55, a former Antigo assistant football coach.

Neufeld is the director of the Antigo School District Aquatic Center. In March he was suspended for 35 days without pay. Friday the district announced that it will reopen the investigation into Neufeld's actions, according to a statement. The school board will then decide the next steps. District officials aren't saying much else, citing personnel concerns. "Given the nature of the ongoing investigations, it would be inappropriate to comment further on personnel matters at this time. We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and communicate updated information as appropriate."

Several other former and current educators in Antigo and Merrill have been charged in this investigation.

Neufeld is due in Langlade County Circuit Court on Monday, April 30. If convicted, he could face 6 months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.
