Several crashes reported in Marathon County due to snow

At least half a dozen crashes have been reported Thursday night in Marathon County due to weather.

No one was seriously hurt, and all the crashes involved single vehicles, according to a Marathon County Sheriff's lieutenant.

The lieutenant told Newsline 9 the southern and eastern portions of the county have heavy layers of slush on the roads. The lieutenant said road crews planned to be out shortly to treat the main highways.

No crashes were reported in Langlade, Portage, Shawano, and Wood counties.

In an interview Thursday afternoon, an official with Wausau Public Works said the snow could cause driving conditions to be slick.

"There might be some slippery roads," said Robert Andringa, Street Supervisor, Wausau Public Works. "So be aware of that on the hills and everything else."

Wausau Public Works has two extra maintenance workers in tonight.
They'll be monitoring road conditions, to see if any extra crews are needed.

"We all know how quickly things can change," said Andringa

Andringa has worked for the city for more than 30 years.
He says he can't remember a warm winter like this year .
But the mild weather did allow the department to finish other projects.

"We've gotten a lot done already of the spring type stuff we normally would do," said Andringa. "We are way ahead of schedule."

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department doesn't have any extra deputies scheduled.
But they do encourage drivers to slow down and pay attention.
