Community effort to help family of boy with rare disease

Doctors diagnosed 9-year old Kyle Pagel of Kronenwetter with a rare form of childhood cancer in 2010. As a result of his treatment for Neuroblastoma,  Kyle had stem cell transplants, tumor removal and chemotherapy.

Now, doctors say he is in remission. As you can imagine, his family is thrilled. Kyle's mother, Megan says."It is so great to see him back in school, playing with friends and just being a kid and having fun."

The Pagel family has also faced financial challenges. As a result, friends have organized a fundraiser to help with medical bills. Debbie Meier organized an event to help the family this weekend. Meier says, "I was so moved, this is a disease that has an impact on Kyle, his siblings and the entire family.  This event was the right thing to do.

The fundraiser will have a Star Wars Theme, with characters in costumes like you've seen the movies.

The event is Sunday, April 22  at the Great Dane in Wausau. It runs from Noon to 5:00. There will be music, food and fun as well as raffles and silent and live auction items.
