SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team dropped a pair of conference games on Saturday afternoon to the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior. The Pointers fell 6-1 in game one and lost 10-3 in the nightcap.
The Pointers fell behind early in the opener 2-0 and runs by Superior in the second and third put UWSP behind 5-0 after three.
UWSP plated its only run in the fourth when Bekah Rennicke (Mequon, WI/Homestead) scored on an Ashley kluck sacrifice fly.
Superior tacked on another run in the fifth to go in front 6-1 and cruise to the victory.
Sara Babbitts (Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) suffered the loss, allowing six runs, four earned, in four innings of work. Michelle Jones (Madison, WI/La Follette) threw two innings in relief, not allowing a run.
In game two, the Yellowjackets took a 4-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back.
UWSP scored two in the third when Katie Krueger (Plover, WI/SPASH)drove in a pair of runs on a double to left, cutting the Superior lead to 5-2 after three, but runs by the 'Jackets in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings put the Pointers away.
Jones suffered the loss in game two, surrendering six earned runs in five innings of work, striking out four.
Krueger finished the day with a pair of hits and two RBIs.
UW-Stevens Point (11-21, 1-11 WIAC) returns to action on Sunday, April 22 with a nonconference doubleheader against third-ranked Luther College. The day is also the Pointers Strike Out Cancer event.
