TOWN OF MAINE (WAOW) -

A man was sent to the hospital after crashing into a power pole on Monday.

According to officers with the State Patrol, a Crescent Electric Supply Company driver suffered a medical issue while he was driving to an appointment in the Town of Maine. A passerby called 911 after seeing the truck take out a power pole. The pole was holding cable and Internet wires.

Authorities say crews had to wait several minutes before they could get anywhere near the pole, in case the lines were live.

"We didn't want to complicate the situation by having an officer injured," State Trooper Bob Fochs said. "We had one potentially injured person already, we wanted to wait for clearance from public service."

After ten minutes, WPS turned off power to the lines and crews were able to get the driver to safety. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where officials say he will be okay.

Crews worked to restore power in the area. All power was restored within a matter of hours.
