Authorities are warning people to be careful near dams, after four people found themselves in a dangerous situation over the weekend.
Four boaters on Lake Alexander found themselves in danger when their boat's motor fell off while they were near a dam.
The Lincoln County recreational deputy got to them Friday evening, and was able to tow them to safety.
Authorities from the DNR said their escape from harm's way was a close one.
"The problem people have when they go over some of these dams, particularly below the dams, is they are caught in a kind of a hydraulic, or a back flow, and they just can't get out of that," said Michael Rader, DNR conservation warden.
Officials said boaters should always wear a life jacket, and anchor their boats on the water.
