Wis. lab confirms salmonella in recalled tuna

Lab testing in Wisconsin has confirmed salmonella contamination in recalled yellowfin tuna and in a spicy tuna roll.

The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene at UW-Madison found salmonella in samples that matched the DNA fingerprint of the outbreak.

That outbreak has sickened 160 people in 20 states and the District of Columbia. In Wisconsin, there have been 15 confirmed cases since February.

Moon Marine USA Corp. of Cupertino, Calif., also known as MMI, is voluntarily recalling frozen raw yellowfin tuna. The product is not available for sale to individual consumers but may have been used to make sushi, sashimi and similar dishes available in restaurants and grocery stores.

In Wisconsin, 3 of the 15 patients were hospitalized. All of the patients have recovered from their infection.
