Minn. Senate committee keeps Vikings bid alive

The Minnesota Senate's Finance Committee has pushed the Minnesota Vikings stadium bill another step forward but also reshaped the proposal in a way its sponsor says costs needed support.

The Finance Committee voted 9-5 on Wednesday to send the nearly $1 billion stadium bill to the Senate Taxes Committee. But the committee also approved an amendment to cover the cost of the proposed state subsidy by authorizing casinos at two Minnesota horse-racing tracks.

The push to add slot machines at the racetracks is a longstanding and controversial issue at Minnesota's Capitol. The bill's Senate author, Sen. Julie Rosen, says linking it to her proposal makes the stadium bid more complicated and that they want to take it back out in another committee.
