2 detained Guinea-Bissau leaders leave country

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) -- Two top politicians who were detained after this month's coup in Guinea-Bissau have left the country after being released.

The former prime minister and interim president traveled aboard Ivory Coast's presidential plane and landed in the commercial capital of Abidjan late Friday.

Raimundo Pereira, who had been serving as president since the country's leader died in January, told reporters: "It's also our country and we are waiting."

Former Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Jr. was the front-runner in a presidential runoff that had been scheduled this month. The election was derailed after armed forces attacked his home with grenades and arrested him.

West Africa's regional bloc has called for the return of constitutional order.
