Teenager shot by friend, treated for bullet wound

A 13 year old Schofield boy was shot by a friend's .22 rifle Sunday, according to the Marathon County Sheriff's Department.

Marathon County investigators say two teenagers were shooting at a target in a Rib Mountain pond area near Pepperbush Lane.  One of the boys shot at the water.  When two other boys told him to stop, investigators say he shot again.  This time the bullet ricocheted off the water hit the 13 year old in the back. The bullet was lodged under his skin.

The grandpa took the boy to St. Clare's Hospital.  The bullet was removed and the child was released.

Marathon County Lt. Dale Wisnewski says the shooting was unintentional but reckless.  A charge of negligent use of a firearm was referred to social services.
