UPDATE: Wausau forgery suspect arrested


The Wausau Police Department reports that 32-year-old Matt Moreland is in custody. Deputy Chief Bryan Hilts said Moreland was wanted in connection with a forgery ring. The Wausau man was arrested in Bloomington, MN. He was driving a stolen vehicle at the time.

On Saturday , officers spotted  Moreland driving and tried to pull  him over. Hilts says, "Moreland ran off and escaped from the officer who was trying to catch him. Inside the car Moreland left behind, we found an assault rifle." The car and rifle are now in the evidence garage at the Wausau Police Department.

Investigators say Moreland and the forgery ring he is suspected in being a part of have bilked businesses in Marathon, Portage and Lincoln counties out of $30,000.

On Monday, officers arrested another man in connection with the forgery ring. He is in the Marathon County Jail.
