Bridge Clinic in Wausau awarded multi-million dollar grant for dental unit
WAUSAU (WAOW) -
A Wausau health clinic that serves underserved and underinsured patients received a multi-million dollar from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services-Health Resources & Services Administration.
Bridge Community Health Clinic Executive Director Laura Scudiere says the $3.388 million capital grant will go towards construction of an expanded dental unit at their Wausau clinic, according to a press release. This funding was allocated through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Action of 2010.
Scudiere says that the grant will help Bridge Clinic meet the growing need for dental care in the area. "We have been struggling to meet the existing need for additional dental services at our current facility," Scudiere is quoted as saying in the release. "This allows us to add dental providers on staff so that we can treat existing dental issues as well as focus on prevention."
The expansion will more than double the clinic's capacity for dental patients. In 2011, Bridge Clinic served 3,340 patients. The expansion will accommodate an additional 5,840 patients. According to the press release, of the dental patients that Bridge Clinic serves 8% are uninsured and 88% are insured through Medicaid.
Construction is expected to begin next year and completed in 2014.
