Long time Marshfield Alderman and business leader John Spiros is announcing his intention to run for State Assembly in the 86thDistrict.
In a press release Wednesday night, Spiros said he wants to be a strong voice for job creation and business expansion.
"We need to do all that we can to bring jobs and economic development to our area," said Spiros. "I believe in keeping government regulations and taxes in check, so businesses have the freedom to expand. I hope to build upon the successes of this past session in the state legislature so we can see more results for working families in the 86th Assembly District."
In his 8th year on the common council, Spiros is currently the Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee. In addition, he is serving his 7th term on the Industrial Park Authority, where he plays a key role in bringing new businesses to the area.
Spiros has been in a management position in the transportation industry for 23 years. He's the Vice President of Safety and Claims Management at Roehl Transport Inc. in Marshfield. Spiros helped the company capture the highest safety award in the industry, the President's Trophy for Safety. In 2009, Spiros was named the National Safety Director of the year.
The former police officer is a veteran of the US Air Force. The majority of his time in the service was with the "SAC elite guard." It is the security force at the Strategic Air Command Headquarters, which was responsible for the security of 23 generals from each branch of the service.
The 86th Assembly District includes portions of Wood and Marathon Counties including the communities of Brokaw, Marathon City, Rib Mountain, Mosinee, Weston, Auburndale and Hewitt.
The general election for the 86th will be held on November 6, 2012.
