Argentine Olympics ad angers Falkland islanders

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -

Residents of the Falkland Islands are angry over a TV commercial secretly filmed in the islands by Argentina, which calls the archipelago the Islas Malvinas and claims it was stolen from them by Britain nearly 180 years ago.

The spot shows Olympic athlete Fernando Zylberberg training in and around Stanley, the capital of the British territory. The ad carries the tagline: "To compete on British soil, we train on Argentine soil."

Zylberberg is captain of the Argentine field hockey team that will be competing in London this summer at the Olympics.

Islanders are not amused. Falklands legislator Ian Hansen tells the daily Penguin News that the ad was filmed without permission and shows Argentina's disrespect for the islanders, because it treats them as if they simply don't exist.
