Students in Stevens Point walk thousands of miles to buy an outdoor track

McDill Elementary students are earning thousands of dollars for their school one step at a time.

McDill's fundraiser is called Walk Across Wisconsin. The students in this Stevens Point school walked laps around the playground during recess as a way to raise money to build their school an outdoor track. So far they have walked more than 4,000 miles, and earned $3,000.

"It's been a lot of fun for the kids and the staff. We've had different members from the community, it's been going on for about four weeks, and it's just been great to see the support," said Kate Hardina, a teacher at McDill Elementary.

This was the last day of the fundraiser. During the week the students were able to walk with athletes from UW Stevens Point, including their mascots, Stevie and Stephanie Pointer.
