State of emergency declared in Genesee flooding

FLINT, MI (AP) -

A state of emergency has been declared in Genesee County following a storm that caused flooding in a number of areas.

Gov. Rick Snyder took the action Friday, which makes state resources available to address remaining threats to public health and safety.

Officials in Genesee County requested the state of emergency.

The storm started May 3 and dumped more than 5 inches of rain in and around Flint.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will join state and local officials beginning Monday to assess the extent of damage to homes and businesses in the most severely impacted areas. Their findings will help the state determine whether any federal aid may be available to help residents and business owners.

Estimates of damage from the storms and flooding also will be collected.
