Contestant on weight-loss show runs 5k in Eagle River

A Wisconsin woman has a shot at winning a television weight loss contest. The contest is called, Dr. Oz's Transformation Nation. It helps promote healthy living.

Jen McElroy has been overweight since she was a teenager. She says two years ago she weighed 382 pounds, and was battling Crohn's disease. That's when McElroy decided she needed to do something to turn her life around. So she joined Weight Watchers, and started running.

McElroy said because of her success with the program, she was offered a spot on Dr. Oz's transformation contest.

"They were doing weigh-ins for this contest, and I thought why not? A little more incentive to lose more weight and try to be healthy," said McElroy.

On Saturday, McElroy and her sister, Brenda Haines ran a 5K at the 16th Annual Journey's Marathon in Eagle River.

"My sister was the one who encouraged me to start," said McElroy.

Haines said she is proud of what her sister has accomplished.

"It's completely unbelievable to watch. You think about it, or you hear about it. You think wow this is cool, and then you see the website, you see the TV show and you realize what a huge deal it is," said Haines.

Since, she started losing weight in 2010, McElroy said she has lost 182 pounds. She lost 46 of those pounds during Dr. Oz's competition.

"So I went through all of those things, and I guess it's just been a whirlwind since then," said McElroy.

McElroy shed her way into becoming one of ten finalists in the contest.

"It was amazing. Honestly, I heard my name and I just kind of blacked out, and the rest of it was like I had to watch it on TV. I couldn't remember what happened," said McElroy.

On May 23rd, McElroy said she will be going to New York for the last day of the competition, when the big winner will be announced. Their prize is a million dollars, and a brand new body.

The winner of the contest is determined by online votes, and tomorrow is the last day you can vote. To find out more about Dr. Oz's Transformation Nation go to
