Wausau elementary school students race for school pride

WAUSAU (WAOW) -

Wausau elementary school students hit the ground running at a district-wide competition.

Students raced in the 46th annual Kiefer-Swenson relays at Wausau West High School. It's one of the longest running traditions in the Wausau School District. The top two boys and girls from each school represented their team in various track and field events.

"You get to compete against other schools and you get to hang out with your friends," said Jones Elementary 4th grader Seth Anderson.

"I like competing," said Jones Elementary 5th grader Makenna Wildman. "I'm very competitive and I like competing against other people."

"We do get to get out of school and it's so exciting that we got to be in second or first place in our school track meet," said Jones Elementary 4th grader Ashton Dreling.

The event drew quite a crowd of parents and supporters, many who may have raced those same events years ago.
