Langlade County man killed after short chase by deputies
A 52 year old Langlade County man died Wednesday night after he tried to get elude from a sheriff's deputies.
Langlade County Sheriff William Greening identified the man as Timothy Zahurones of Summit Lake.
Greening says the department received a series of calls regarding Zahurones.
The first call came at 8:45pm Wednesday from a tavern in the Town of Neva. The bartender says he was in a verbal altercation with a man over a drink.
Greening says Zahurones went to another tavern, where he was refused service.
Another call that evening came from a relative who said Zahurones made a suicide threat.
As deputies tried to locate the 52 year old, they received another call from someone claiming a domestic dispute involving Zahurones.
A Langlade County Sheriff's deputy located Zahurones driving near the intersection of Highway 55 and County Highway T. Greening says as the deputy pursued, he activated his lights. At that point, Zahurones accelerated. Then the deputy activated his sirens. At that point, a man who was driving a pickup and hauling a boat the opposite direction pulled over. Greening says Zahurones crossed the center line, missed the truck but hit the boat and crashed into a group of trees. Greening says 11 seconds passed from the time the sirens were activated to the time Zahurones crashed.
Zahurones was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were not injured.
