Friday Sports Report - 05/19/12

The Greenwood baseball team was unbeaten entering Friday with an eye toward the playoffs.

The Indians lost a heartbreaker in the sectionals last season but look primed for another late run this year.

Greenwood is the top-ranked team in division four and sits atop the Cloverbelt East. The Indians scored four runs in the first inning and held off second-place Spencer for a 10-2 win.

The Wisconsin Valley Conference held the final leg of its conference tournament Friday. Stevens Point's Ryan Hofmeister tied for top honors with a 74 to win the overall valley crown. Wausau West's Matt Sandquist finished second in the overall standings.

SPASH won the team title and DC Everest was second.

State Park Speedway will kick off the 2012 season Saturday when the ASA Midwest Tour returns. ASA cars run on a new kind of tire this year and State Park owner Scott Wimmer says fans could be treated to a record-breaking race Saturday night.
