High school student charged in crash that killed 2
WYOMING, MI (AP) -
A 17-year-old high school student is facing charges after authorities say the car he was driving crashed on a West Michigan expressway exit ramp and rolled, killing two classmates inside.
MLive.com reports Takunda Mavima faces charges including drunken driving causing death and drunken driving causing serious injury in Sunday's crash. He's being held in the Kent County Jail on $50,000 bond and faces a May 30 hearing.
Wyoming District Court says Tuesday he's requested a court-appointed attorney.
Police in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming say the pre-dawn crash killed 15-year-old Krysta Howell and 17-year-old Timothy See. They say the injured passengers are 18-year-olds Trenton Lampbright and Huy Nguyen and 16-year-old Dylan Stanaway. All six involved attended Wyoming Park High School.
