SENEY, MI (AP) -

Officials say two wildfires believed to have been triggered by lightning have consumed thousands of acres in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, aided by dry conditions and gusty winds.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says crews are working Thursday to control the fire at Seney National Wildlife Refuge in Schoolcraft County.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the blaze that was estimated at 2,500 acres Wednesday had spread to at least 3,200 acres Thursday.

So far, no injuries or building damage have been reported. The fire started Sunday.

In Luce County, a lightning strike near Pike Lake on Wednesday has started a fire that consumed at least 640 acres. TV stations WLUC and WWTV/WWUP say the Red Cross is helping people forced to flee at a center in Newberry.
