Two Pointers named track All-Americans



CLAREMONT, Calif. – The tandem of UW-Stevens Point runners Kelly Haen (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) and Julia Colling (Maplewood, MN/North) finished fifth and seventh, respectively, on Thursday evening to take home All-American honors at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Haen, who earned All-American honors as a cross country runner and at the indoor championships in the mile, posted a time of 36:13.77 in the event to finish in fifth place.

Colling, also a cross country runner and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) champion in the indoor 5k, placed seventh with a time of 36:38.92.

Elsewhere for the Pointers, sophomore Dan Sullivan (Elkhorn, WI/Elkhorn) ran the second-fastest time in the preliminaries of the 1500-meter run, posting a time of 3:54.73, qualifying him for the event finals on Saturday.

Sean Hasenstein (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan Lutheran) finished 10th in the 10k run, posting a time of 31:17.56 in the event finals.

Brian Thill (Webster, WI/Webster) currently sits in fourth place with 2097 points in the men's decathlon and Nick Geiger is 15th with 1921 points. Events continue Friday.

Set to compete on Friday, May 25, Amy Krzykowski (Junction City, WI/SPASH), in the hammer throw, Erin Kline (Casco, WI/Luxemburg-Casco) in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, Babatunde Awosika (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee School of Arts) in the prelims of the 400-meter run, Thill and Geiger in the decathlon and Scott Berry (Rudolph, WI/Lincoln) in the prelims of the 800-meter run.
