Absentee voting brisk ahead of Wis recall election

MILWAUKEE (AP) -

Gov. Scott Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett are taking a one-day break from campaigning as they observe Memorial Day. Plenty of voters, however, still have the recall election on their minds.

Hundreds of voters lined up at the Municipal Building in downtown Milwaukee on Monday to cast absentee ballots ahead of the June 5 election.

Fifty-year-old Cathy Cunningham of Milwaukee says she voted early so she could spend Election Day encouraging others to vote. She says she voted for the Democratic Barrett because she thinks Walker has sold out the state to corporate interests.

On the other side, 29-year-old Stephen Van Gelderen voted for Walker. He says he likes the Republican governor's fiscal policies and conservative position on moral issues.
