Mexico cartel drops aerial leaflets against gov't

The governor of the northern Mexico state of Sinaloa says drug traffickers apparently used an airplane to drop thousands of leaflets accusing him of taking orders from drug lord Joaquin Guzman.

Drug cartels in Mexico frequently post videos and hang banners from bridges to get their messages out. But the incident in the Sinaloa state capital of Culiacan would be the first time in recent memory that traffickers have resorted to aerial leafleting, if it is confirmed.

Sinaloa Gov. Mario Lopez Valdez said Wednesday that the leaflets expressed anger about the death in custody of a suspected member of another cartel at a state prison.

Lopez Valdez denies any links to Guzman's Sinaloa cartel.

The state has seen turf battles between the Sinaloa cartel and the rival Zetas.
