The Edgar boys track team captured its first-ever state title Saturday, while the Edgar girls ran away with their third straight division three state championship in impressive fashion.
Marathon finished just a-point-and-a-half behind Edgar for the boys' team title, but it wasn't without a wild finish.
Edgar led 44.50 to Marathon's 43 heading into the final event of the day, the 4x400 relay. Edgar was not competing in the event, so the Raiders needed a seventh place finish or better to win the state title.
Marathon crossed the finish line in seventh place, but after the race, officials determed the Raiders first baton exchange occurred outside the zone and they were disqualified from the event giving Edgar its first-ever state title.
The Edgar girls', meanwhile, won 11 events and ran away with its third straight state title by 61 points over Manitowoc Lutheran.
Elsewhere, Lakeland's Marquis Johnson won the division one boys' 400 in 48.57 seconds and took second in the 200
Tri-County's Tyler Schwartzman edged out Marathon's Cody Ewert across the line for the division three 300 hurdles state title.
The Athens 4x100 relay took third place, just 0.17 of a second behind the winners.
Wisconsin Rapids' Vince Biegel finished second in the boys' division one 110 hurdles, while in the division two boys' 3,200 meter relay, Nekoosa brought home a third-place finish.
Finally, in the division one triple jump, Marshfield's Jeremy Robinson took fourth with a leap of 45 feet, 3.5 inches.
