People at Oak Island Park in Wausau gathered to watch the inaugural "Big Green Derby" -- a race for boats made out of recycled materials.
Children learned lessons about taking care of the environment. Some even went green -- literally -- by getting their hair colored. But for many, the highlight of the day was the big race.
"Everybody runs to the river and it's been a lot of fun," said United Way Resource Development Director Toni Dunwoody. "Seeing everybody out and about and enjoying themselves and coming together as a community."
The "Water Trough" by the Barn Yard took first prize in Saturday's race. The proceeds go toward United Way's Emerging Leaders and their community projects.
