Authorities have released the name of the Brooklyn Center police officer involved in a fatal shooting last week.
The officer is identified as Kou Moua.
The Star Tribune reports Moua began his police career as a member of the Brooklyn Center multi-cultural cadet program. He completed that two-year program and has been a Brooklyn Center police officer for four years.
Authorities say 20-year-old Dontaylo Wright was carrying a rifle and walking down the middle of the street last Thursday evening. Brooklyn Center says the first officer on the scene confronted Wright and "was forced to shoot the suspect, who died at the scene."
Moua is on standard paid administrative leave. The Hennepin County sheriff's office is investigating the shooting.
