Two state champions, two very different roads to gold.
The Edgar girls dominated the division three field, winning by 61 points, while the Edgar boys had to wait anxiously until the final event of the state track meet to squeeze out a one and a half point win.
For the Edgar girls, a third straight title was expected almost as soon as they stepped off the podium last season. They delivered, winning 10 of 18 events, setting two state records, and scoring more than 100 points at the state track meet for the second straight season.
For the boys, Kyle Schueller and Viktor Stelter each had strong individual showings. In fact, they combined to score 40 of their team's 44.5 points, but they made it clear this weekend was about lifting a team trophy.
One school winning both the boys and girls state titles in the same year had only happened three times in state history. Edgar becomes the fourth on that prestigious list and they admit it may take time to realize the importance of what they've accomplished.
