UPDATE: Woman found sleeping in woods after crash issued citation

UPDATE: A 21 year old woman was cited following a crash that caused an estimated $100,000 damage to Wisconsin Public Service equipment.

Jessica Smith was cited for unsafe lane deviation, reckless driving - endanger safety, hit and run – property adjacent to highway, and failure to notify police of a traffic crash.

Deputies say they located Smith several hours after the single vehicle crash that happened late Wednesday night.  According to a press release, deputies were unable to gain enough evidence for an arrest for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated; though they feel alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The cause and circumstances of a crash that happened in Lincoln County around 10 p.m. Wednesday are still under investigation.

Authorities say a 21-year-old driver fled the scene after missing a curve, becoming airborne and striking a utility pole on Kings Road.

Officers from the Tomahawk Police Department and a K9 unit from the Rhinelander Police Department responded to the scene and began searching for the driver.

At approximately 3:00 in the morning, officers say they found the driver sleeping in the woods near the scene of the crash. She was sent to Sacred Heart Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Wisconsin Public Service spent over six hours making repairs at the scene; exact costs are still unknown. The Kings Dam was shut down during repairs in case of power loss.
