MADISON (WKOW) -
Officials say they have recovered the body of one of the missing teenager girls from the lake.
Elise Schaffer, PIO for the Dane County Sheriff's Office, confirmed to 27 News that the body of one of the missing teenagers was found in Lake Kegonsa Friday around noon.
Sixteen-year-olds, Emma Maurer, of Stoughton, and Sydnie Kwiatkowski, of Footville, were last seen swimming in the lake by a fisherman around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police search for two teenagers who went missing late Thursday afternoon.
Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney has scheduled a press conference regarding the missing teens for 9:00 a.m. Friday in the town of Pleasant Springs.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office says the two girls had been with friends on a Lake Kegonsa beach in LaFollette County Park on Thursday. Their friends left the area for a short time and when they went back, the two girls were gone. Their personal items were still on the beach. Family members called 911 after searching and not finding the girls.
Dane County deputies, including members of the Marine and Trail Enforcement Team, the Dive Team, and detectives checked Lake Kegonsa Thursday evening for any signs of the two teenagers. They are continuing their search Friday morning, but need the public's help.
The girls are identified as 16-year-old Emma Maurer, of Stoughton, and 16-year-old Sydnie Kwiatkowski, of Footville. If you know where they might be, call the 911 Communications Center or the Dane County Sheriff's Office tipster hotline at 608-284-6900.
