The Wisconsin Special Olympics is underway in Stevens Point.
Athletes participated Friday in several events. This year's summer games feature more than 2,000 special Olympians taking part in track and field, swimming, power lifting, and soccer.
"We can't do everything, but we love to compete, we love to do different things," said athlete Melissa Endl. "It's great how all the law enforcement's here and everybody around is just here to encourage us on and support us."
Another athlete, Jacquelyn Stieber, echoed that.
"It's a great place to be, and it's pretty active and fun, and very inspiring," she said.
The games are staffed by many volunteers.
"If I can give them two days out of the year, I love it," said volunteer Annette Houck.
