Authorities have recovered the body of a missing swimmer. Police say, the man in his 20's went missing around 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon in Wausau. Family and friends say he was swimming in Man-Made lake at Sunnyvale Park.
"He went down and he didn't come back up," said Jalissa Labarge.
Labarge says when she noticed her friend wasn't swimming next to her, she quickly rushed to shore and called 911. While people at the lake started to search.
"Everyone tried what they could," Labarge. "But the water was too, you just can't see nothing, and by then it was really too late."
Emergency crews used helicopters and rescue boats to look for the missing swimmer. When they couldn't find the missing man, the Marathon County Dive Team was called in, and Sunnyvale Park was shut down.
"I was hysterical saying please be playing with me and she said it's serious," said Michael Washington, the swimmer's uncle.
Family says the man recently moved to Wausau from Mississippi.
The dive team searched the water for hours, but authorities say windy conditions made the search difficult. The dive team recovered the body around 8 o'clock.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Authorities asked we hold the victim's name until family in Mississippi can be notified.
