The museum at UW-Stevens point is celebrating a milestone.
The museum has recently added a Pygmy sperm whale skull, making it the 10,000th item in the mammal collection.
You'll find 400,000 specimens in the museum, varying from fossilized plants to ancient crystals.
Museum officials say having this impressive piece will be vital in student education.
"We continue to grow through research and also trades," museum curator Chris Yahnke said. "We don't keep everything but about 86 percent of the collection is from Wisconsin and we have specimens from 38 of the states as well as around the world."
The museum is the second largest in the state next to UW-Madison.
