Weston teen honored for work to end hunger

Peyton Medick of Weston has been honored for her work to feed the hungry. The non-profit Sodexo Foundation recognizes students and adults for their efforts. Sodexo has awarded Peyton a $5,000 college scholarship and a $5,000 grant.

Peyton is the founder of Peyton's Promise, a charity that collects food and monetary donations to stock food pantries. Since she started the non-profit 5 years ago, she has collected 70 tons of food and $20,000 in donations.

In July, Peyton will represent the United States as one of the torch runners for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England. She was selected for this honor because of her charity work. She will carry the torch on July 9. You can keep up with her journey here at waow.com.

This weekend, Peyton is taking part in the Feed My Starving Children event at the Noel Hangar in Stevens Point. The event runs from 2:00-4:00 PM. They are looking for volunteers to help pack food for the hungry.
