Good old fashioned police work combined with high tech tools help police solve crimes. Wisconsin has three crime labs in Wausau, Madison and Milwaukee.
We went to the Wausau lab for a tour Friday. The lab supervisor says they process about 2500 cases a year in 40 counties in the northern part of Wisconsin.
Lab workers analyze foot and tire impressions and fingerprints, drugs, crime scene photos and videos and collect blood samples which are sent to the Madison lab for DNA testing.
Lasers and special lights are used to detect fingerprints and bodily fluids.
