Antigo teacher suspended for one year without pay after drug investigation

An Antigo elementary physical education teacher will be suspended for one year without pay.

Dan Witman is one of five employees being investigated in the Antigo Unified School District for drug use. In addition to his suspension, he will have to undergo random drug testing and will be excluded from coaching assignments and participation in counseling.

According to a statement, a district investigation "determined that Mr. Witman had not engaged in habitual use of drugs and was not subject to a criminal complaint."

Several other former and current educators in Antigo and Merrill have been charged in the investigation. Three Antigo School District employees have resigned after being criminally charged. A fourth has been punished and is back to work.
