A Portage County man is being hailed for saving the life of a cat. Gino Bulek was walking near the dam in Jordan Park, near Stevens Point, last Wednesday. He noticed something hanging on the dam. When he got closer he realized it was a cat.
Bulek said the animal looked like it was near death, and decided to use a fishing net to the pull it to safety. Bulek reports that the cat had what appeared to be a noose around his neck and it was tied to the dam. He believes someone put the cat there to die.
The cat was taken to the Portage County Humane Society. Shelter workers took it to a veterinarian, at Community Hospital, who waived treatment fees. The male is estimated to be about 5 years old.
Bulek says he now plans to adopt the cat and he plans to name him Lucky. A happy ending to what could have been a very sad story.
Anyone with information on how the cat ended up on the dam should call the Portage County Humane Society at 715-344-6012.
