As Wis. temps soar, use common sense to stay cool

With Wisconsin temperatures expected to top 90 degrees this week, Wisconsin health officials are reminding residents to use common sense about staying cool.

The most important reminder is to drink plenty of water, even if you're not thirsty.

Also, never leave children, disabled people or pets in a parked car, even briefly. On a hot day, temperatures inside a car can rise 20 to 30 degrees above the outside temperature, even with the windows cracked.

If you don't have air conditioning, Racine County's emergency management suggests one easy way to cool down: Apply cold, wet rags to your neck, head and limbs. Or take a cool shower.

Authorities also ask that residents check on family, friends and neighbors who might be at risk because of age or health problems.
