When the temperature rises, some swimmers take cover. Lifeguards at Wausau's Memorial Park pool said the hotter it gets, the fuller the pool.
"I dive with my toys sometimes if I bring them," said Jack Halsted, who lives in Wausau.
And there's plenty to do for kids trying to keep cool.
"Staying at Memorial and keeping cool," said Megan Goss, who lives in Wausau. "The diving board is fun. I keep doing a pencil dive and it's awesome."
"Pool makes you feel better," said Max Speichinger, who lives in Wausau.
At just $1 a day, kids here can make a splash without spending a lot of cash.
"We knew it was going to be extremely hot out today so we gathered up a few kids from the neighborhood and thought we'd come down to the pool," said Kimberly Hanz, who lives in Wausau. "It's an inexpensive way to keep cool and have fun at the same time."
And as the dog days of summer continue, kids said they're happy to doggy paddle their way to a cooler day.
