Brendon Haydon of the Woodchucks is mashing right now.
He just finished his freshman year at Virginia Tech and is hitting .354 with a team leading 19 RBI. And he is second on the team in hits, home runs, and doubles.
The Twin Lakes native usually sits in either the third or fourth spot in the Chucks lineup. And his manager says the 19-year-old Hayden is just developing his power.
Hayden was a 36th round pick by the Phillies last year. But not as a hitter. As a pitcher.
Hayden on the mound features a two seam fastball, a change up and a curve. This season his ERA is 2.70.
But there's one hole in his game. Hayden has committed 12 errors. By far the most errors on the team.
Most of his mistakes have come playing third base, which is why you'll see him for the rest of the season playing mostly first base, where he played in college. Anything to keep that bat in the lineup.
