Woman drowns after rafting in Menominee County

A woman rafting yesterday on the Smokey Falls on the Wolf River in Menominee County was found dead this morning.

Officials say 20-year-old Lina Maria Vergara Castaneda entered the water and didn't resurface.

They say she was not wearing a life jacket.

According to a press release, it happened around 5:30 Saturday evening. It says officials were not able to find her by the time it got dark. It goes on to say that because of dangerous water conditions, their search was suspended until Sunday morning.

Officials say they were able to locate her just after 8 a.m.

They say the initial cause of death is accidental drowning.
