The Wausau Area Softball Association is hosting the Junior Olympic girls state softball championship. 90 teams from around the state are in the Wausau area to compete against the best Wisconsin has to offer.
This weekend's tournament is a good stepping stone to the national tournament. And local teams say they have a leg up with the tournament so close to home.
"I think its an advantage, with the ballpark and the diamond, you know how the infield and the pitching mound is, I think it's an advantage," said John Gaber, the coach of the 14U Stevens Point team.
"Its great, the girls get to go home in between home games and cool down a bit," said Brad Ludwig, coach of the Mosinee 16U softball team. "Go home eat good food and be able to get some energy."
