Cooling centers open in Marathon County


There have been several heat related deaths in Wisconsin this summer. That mean when the temps go up, communities around the state aren't taking any chances.

Local officials are urging people to protect themselves from the heat and heat related illness. For the second time this summer Marathon County area libraries are available as cooling centers.

All of their nine locations offered people air conditioning and free bottles water.

In Wausau, library officials say dozens of people have come in seeking relief from the heat. People, like David Suelzer who doesn't have any air conditioning and needs a break from the hot.

"I'm so glad to be in a place like this where we can come and cool off a little," Suelzer said. "They have done really great things for lots of people that didn't have air conditioning at all."
