Workers close lanes along Highway 29 to fix pavement explosions

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -

Marathon County highway crews are back on the roads this week -- fixing streets after a series of pavement explosions earlier this month.

After giving the roads a temporary patch, workers are going back to put a more permanent fix in place. They're adding asphalt and smoothing it over -- repairing the damage left behind after this month's heat wave.

"This year all of the problems have kind of been in here [along Highway 29] and we've had a couple out by Hatley," said Marathon County Highway Department Assistant Superintendent Kristopher Baguhn. "In previous years, there's other spots where it kind of seems to keep popping it's head."

Workers will be out along Highway 29 through out the week and will be closing some lanes while they work to give the pavement time to set. So if you see them out there, make sure to give them a little space.
