Woodchucks All-Star Jack Fischer

Jack Fischer is an all-star pitcher this year for the Woodchucks.
It's easy to see why the Illinois native was chosen for the team.  He has a 2.43 ERA this season to go with 41 strikeouts in just 37 innings pitched.
But if you ask him, he doesn't consider himself a strikeout guy.
"It's not really my goal to strike guys out, my goal is to keep the pitch count down and let the hitters get themselves out early in the count," Fischer said.  "Strikeouts are just like an added bonus.  So it's been a pleasant surprise so far."
The soon-to-be Wake Forest junior features a fastball, change up, slider, and is developing a curve ball.
"I'm getting more confidence in the pitches, able to throw them in any count, ahead or behind, which is able to keep the hitters off balance," he added.
He's helped the Chucks to a 20-4 home record heading into Wednesday. And he's had the good luck of having 5 of 6 starts at home.
He's also been fortunate to be backed by an offense that has averaged 7 runs a game in the second half of the Northwoods League season.
"It's big, if were only able to score one or two runs, it'd be a lot more pressure," Fischer said.  "It's an added bonus for the pitcher and everyone on the staff to go out and give up a crooked number and still have confidence in our stuff and still have that feeling that we're going to win the game."
These Chucks are fun to watch right now, but not for their opponents.
